Situated on the West side of town in Skinner Street, is the family-run business of Holmans Bookshop and Stationers. The shop is ideally placed on this busy thoroughfare between the West Cliff and town, to cater to the needs of the visitor and local alike, and is Whitby's only truly independent bookshop. From the centre of Whitby, close to the swing bridge, it is only a short uphill walk to Skinner Street, via Golden Lion Bank and Flowergate.
A wonderful window display invites the customers inside to view the extensive range of merchandise. Holmans contains many different departments under one roof. A Newsagents for the daily newspapers and magazines, a Toy Store with board games, cards and cuddly toys, a Card Shop with a comprehensive range of greeting cards, wrappings, napkins and gifts.
The well-stocked Bookstore has literature on local history, children’s novelty and story books, cookery, and a wide range of paperbacks, OS maps, an extensive section on railways, shipping and maritime, and, in fact, anything you could possibly want. If, however, a particular book is not available, then Holmans has a next day ordering service, free of charge.
The excellent range of stationery available, encompasses both the traditional and modern, quality writing paper, writing sets and computer paper, alongside drawing pads and sketching materials..

Established for over one hundred years, this Grade II listed building, with friendly and helpful staff, is a delight for those wishing to browse, holding many surprises in respect of the volume and diversity of the shelf displays.
Holmans is Spread over Three Levels
Level 1.
Holmans stocks all major national newspapers and magazines as well as local press. On this level you will also find calendars, diaries, bags and stationery products
and other items from from a huge range of manufacturers, including "gorjuss".
We sell everything from raffle tickets to Law Packs from a wide range of well known, high-quality brands.
Level 2.
Downstairs in Holmans we stock a comprehensive range of greetings cards, giftwrap, candles, cakeboards, jampot covers & labels. We also have a wide selection of napkins in everyday and Christmas designs.
Level 3.
As Whitby's only truly independent bookshop, we stock a huge selection of books on all sorts of subjects, specially selected by our friendly and experienced staff.
We offer an excellent next-day book ordering service if you require something we don't have in stock.
If you do not live locally but would like to order from us we offer a postal service.

Jigsaws
Holmans stocks a vast number of high quality jigsaws from companies such as Gibsons and Ravensburger. Jigsaws prove to be very popular gifts and with a such a range of designs as ours there's something for everyone!
